Radio engineering: what is it?

Radio engineering studies electromagnetic wave propagation, radio engineering systems calculations and communication through radio channel. It includes the wide range of devices for data transmission and receiving using electromagnetic waves. New generation of radio electronic devices allows to process large amounts of data at high speed in digital form; this occurs due to the fast development of optoelectronics and microprocessors.

Basic radio engineering systems are:

  • global radio navigation and broadcasting systems;
  • wireless control systems;
  • radar systems;
  • sound and TV broadcasting systems;
  • cellular communication systems;

Aerospace instrumentation

In this course students acquire knowledge in space scientific equipment design ground and flight experiments and data processing.

Major subjects are:

  • design of sensing devices for scientific equipment;
  • on-board facilities design;
  • modeling of space activities effects on spacecraft;
  • experimentation methods and techniques;

Students are encouraged to lead their own researches and experiments in the laboratories and at the space base on spacecrafts “Foton”, “Resurs-DK”, etc.

Graduates may find work in various space enterprises («TsSKB-Progress State Research and Production Space Center» etc.

Graduates may enter full-time postgraduate studies in Samara State Aerospace University.

Telecommunication systems and networks

Telecommunication systems are used to transmit and receive different amounts of variformed data over a distance. Telecommunication networks include cellular networks, space broadcasting, the Internet, radio relay lines, etc. Telecommunication networks consist of carrier medium for digital signals, switching equipment, data processing devices, hardware and software control system.

Design and development of high-efficiency telecommunication system is a very important challenge nowadays. It is impossible to create an information-oriented society and to introduce up-to-date information technologies in all spheres of human activities without telecommunication networks. For these reasons the professionals in the field of telecommunication are one of the most needed specialists.

Students acquire knowledge in the main net technologies, types and peculiarities of communication systems and its’ functioning, and study the equipment of such leading companies as Ericsson, Siemens, NEC, Nortel, Cisco, etc.

Students also learn about information security, traffic grooming, object remote control and management, local area and multiservice networks. They learn to install, tune and service radio engineering equipment.

Space radio navigation and global space communication systems involve up-to-date improvements of computer and communication technologies. The interaction of global positioning system, radio communication and electronic cartography allows to know vehicle’s position, to lay routs and control its’ abidance, to receive information about cartographic features. Today there operates two systems: Navstar (GPS) and GLONASS. Usage of these systems will allow to specify the position of the vehicle with more accuracy and to rise the reliability of system functioning. The development of microelectronics and computer systems, satellite navigation, space and ground communication, electronic cartography led to the possibility to form the vide range of transport and dispatch information technologies. GPS technology is widely used by urban service. Navigational information is used by organizations which carriage dangerous or costly cargos.

There are several laboratories:

  • laboratory of radio circuits and radio signals;
  • laboratory of television and radio technology;
  • laboratory of digital equipment and microprocessors;
  • laboratory of computer modeling;
  • laboratory of optical equipment;
  • laboratory of radio engineering systems.
